A website
is composed of many files. In order for everyone
on the internet to access your website, your
files must be stored and made accessible on
a computer called a webserver. There are thousands
of webservers across the world, all interconnected,
making up the World Wide Web.
When
choosing a webhost you must decide if they offer
what you need at a reasonable price. Lower price
may mean fewer services.
Some
things to consider:
Will
you be allowed to use your own domain name?
(see domains
section) Most paid hosting allows this. Free
hosting services may not.
Are you
allowed email addresses associated with your
domain name? (see email
section) If so, how many and is there a transfer/size
limit?
Are you
required to carry any type of advertising banners
or popup ads on your website? Generally this
would only be required through a free webhosting
service. They sell advertising to offset their
costs.
Will
you have a user ?
What about
access? Most webhosts offer both.
Will
you have a
and the ability to run ?
Are any free scripts offered (shoppingcart,
form mailer, guest book, etc)?
How much
space are you allowed?
What
about support? Can you contact the host in case
you have a problem?
These
are a few of the things you should consider
when choosing a webhost. If you have questions
about hosting or anything else related to your
website you may contact me HERE.
